Lately I’ve been hurting. Now before you dismiss this as another overly sentimental post, let me explain: I broke up with my boyfriend almost two years ago now. I don’t miss him. At least I thought I didn’t.

Lately I’ve been getting these strange pains in my joints (roundabout the knee area) that come and go during a specific time of the month (as if menstruation wasn’t enough for a woman to worry about). That time of the month just happens to be the 28th, our former monthsary date. It’s been driving me mad.

I went to the doctor and he told me that it might be a “psychosomatic disorder” – meaning the pain is only being caused by my mind and is closely related with someone of my past. Despite my insistence that I in fact had no feelings left over for my former lover, however, the doctor repeated that joint pain relief is totally dependent on my mind – my subconscious mind that is. Either I need psychiatric help, or I need to see a better doctor.

I’ve been wondering, how do you get rid of dark under eye circles? Lately I’ve been working long hours. For whatever reason, life decided to throw me curve ball and now I work the night shift for people that don’t pay me nearly enough. This is probably the cause for the resutling dark under eye circles that have made me look like a sleep-deprived raccoon.

I’ve read somewhere that a good technique for dark under eye circles is to place refrigerated tea-bags over your eyes overnight because it absorbs the salt deposits that your eyes produce as a result of too much strain. I’ll look pathetic when doing it, but by God if I don’t look pathetic already. The eyes after all, are the windows to your soul. If my windows look like they survived World War II then what do you think that will say about my soul? I’ve got a good soul – these dark under eye circles have got to go.

Kids nowadays are so smart. Earlier, I was talking over skype with my eight year old niece and guess what we talked about – Investing money. She told me that her mom opened a kiddie savings account for her and she wants to save her allowance to “invest”.

Investing is such a big word for an eight year old although I do understand where that’s coming from. Her mom is an accountant and her dad a businessman so maybe she regularly hears her parents talking about business stuff.

Because I know that she is still too young for that business jargon, I thought of using Uncle Scrooge as an example to discuss how to save up. Uncle Scrooge, in case you are not familiar, is a wealthy duck who loves to dive and swim in his pool of gold coins. I discussed that if you saved even a little every month, someday the money will pile up just like Uncle Scrooge’s coin pool.

It turned out to become a sensible discussion on money. A discussion I never expected to have with an eight year old. It was just plain fun. I bet she’ll be very good with financial matters by the time she’s in high school.

The economic recession certainly took its toll on the insurance companies. Many closed down or have been acquired by other companies. I have received reports that our current insurance agency is having trouble financially so the boss wants me to consider getting a new one.

A friend of mine, who is an HR from another company, suggested that I try looking for life insurance rates from Wholesale Insurance. She said that companies can avail of this at a much cheaper price. Considering this option, I wrote proposal to my boss and I asked him to review it. Now it’s up to him to decide if we will get it or not. For now, I have still a few chores to do like update my facebook. haha.

I’m so happy! My friend who recently searched for work at jobs philly informed me that there are lots of companies out there looking for someone like me that’s offering twice the salary I’m currently earning. ^_^

Now all I have to do is update my online resumes and start sending those companies my application! If all goes well, I’ll finally be able to move to a 3-bedroom apartment with my friends and even have enough cash to sustain my monthly Yoga classes. Plus, I might just reach my target savings by next year!

Life just keeps getting better if you stay positive!

While at the mall earlier, I got a flyer from some promo girl. The flyer advertised the benefits of colon cleansing which is quite interesting. The written article was talking about ways to detoxify the body and one of them is colon cleansing.

I have always been a fan of alternative medicine. Among the alternative treatments I have tried already are the acupuncture, reflexology, water therapy, and hot flow yoga. So far all of them worked well for me. This benefits of colon cleansing thing is something that I haven’t tried before but I am really interested.

I have a friend who practice internal medicine. I always ask for his opinion whenever I wanted to try alternative treatments and so I asked him about this stuff. He said that colon cleansing or colonoscopy is generally used for pre-surgical procedures to clean the colon before surgery. He said there’s no harm in trying it although he said that there are still no proven facts regarding the claimed benefits. So I guess I’ll just do more research on this before I try it out but I am really very curious about it.

Early this morning, I received an email saying “surprise wedding invitation” from Jen, a friend of mine whom I’ve never seen for two years. Yes we still contact each other through emails and chat, but she had never told me any plans on getting married. To my excitement, I asked my boss to give me the day off and fortunately he allowed me, in exchange for a Saturday work of course. I called my friend and met in a coffee shop to warm things up.

We talked about a lot of things, including the reason why she is getting married. She and her boyfriend have been living together for years and last week, she found out that she was pregnant at last. She never thought that it would be possible because her OB told her that she has only a small chance of being pregnant because of some hormonal problems. So this one is a sort of miracle for her.

Anyhow, after coffee, I went with her to the mall to look for wedding rings. We found the best one for the lowest price. It was a pair of wedding rings with several certified diamonds. She paid the down payment for the ring then we headed to the bridal shop for the wedding gown. We still haven’t found a gown that she liked so I suggested getting it custom made. She agreed. To my surprise, she gave me the invitation card and I saw my name in one of the bridesmaids! I was so happy at the same time pressured – ‘coz this means I’ll have to trim my figure fast.
